Deposit, insurance, deductible: these three words come up in almost every question asked before booking, and they're often confused. Yet, they refer to three very distinct mechanisms, each with a specific role. Here's how to book with peace of mind.

In summary: the security deposit is a hold placed on your credit card at the start of the rental and released if the vehicle is returned undamaged. Comprehensive insurance is included in the rental price at Vision et Merveille. The excess, on the other hand, is the amount you are responsible for in the event of an at-fault accident, and can be reduced by purchasing excess waiver insurance. These three concepts are related, but not interchangeable.

Caution, insurance, deductible: what does each term mean?

The security deposit is a hold placed on the main driver's card at the start of the rental. No money is debited unless damage is reported upon return: it's a guarantee, not a payment. The DGCCRF's fact sheet on vehicle rental reminds us that the security deposit covers damage that may occur during the rental period and most often corresponds to the amount of the non-waivable excess.

Insurance covers material and bodily damage in the event of an accident during the rental period. It is mandatory and usually included in the rental price.

The deductible is the portion of repair costs you are responsible for if you cause an accident, even with comprehensive insurance. It may be reduced or waived depending on the rental company.

Insurance: what is included in our rental rates

At Vision et Merveille, comprehensive insurance is included in the price of every rental, as are 200 km per day. No additional options are needed before departure: the price displayed on our Rates and Quotes page is a final price, insurance included. To compare the different motorhome insurance plans and coverages on the market, AXA Passion offers a detailed comparison of coverages .

Franchising at Vision et Merveille: how it works

In the event of an at-fault accident, a deductible will apply. This amount is €1,000 if the responsible party is identified, or €2,000 if they are not. This deductible can be waived for a fixed daily rental fee, allowing you to travel worry-free. The exact amount for each case is detailed in our FAQ .

The security deposit: how does it actually work?

The security deposit is held on the main driver's card by pre-authorization at the start of the rental, with no charge made unless damage is noted during the return inspection. It will then be released within a few business days after your return. The exact amount, as well as details of the documents required for booking, are specified in our FAQ .

A standard category B driving licence is sufficient for our entire fleet, subject to a minimum age and driving experience, which are also specified in our FAQ.
